After the big success that was Throne of Games, I got a lot of requests for different types of thrones to work on. Little did they know that I had already discussed and planned with my dear friend Alison Read which one I will be working on next.

Throne of MagicShe came up with the concept and drew me an artwork to go by, which I then fleshed out. I wanted to go in a lot more detail and add a lot more items than I had for my previous throne. I was well aware that this was going to require a lot more effort and dedication. I was ready to give this design my very best shot.

Throne of Magic is composed of approximately 50 items belonging to anime Magical Girls from the 1980s to the present day. Each iconic item was drawn individually, then placed onto the throne and finally coloured and shaded as a whole.

The design took months to finish. Occasionally I had to stop and work on other designs, this allowed me to return with fresh eyes each time, spotting any mistakes or changes that needed to be worked on.

Once finished this design helped me achieve many of my goals. It was my first print with It also helped me get in touch with Linda Ballantyne, voice actress for Sailormoon in the 90s, who later introduced me to Toby Proctor (Tuxedo Mask,) Katie Griffin (Sailor Mars) and Susan Roman (Sailor Jupiter.) It is, at least for now, the most iconic design in my portfolio, and I couldn’t be any happier with it.
