My most recent Woof City commission portrays Nard McQuade. Out of all the characters in the series that I have worked on thus far, Mr McQuade was the only one I knew nothing about and wasn’t given any details as to how his character should translate in the poster. Yet the lack of information engulfed the character in a certain mystery and I was intrigued by the notion of recreating that mystery onto the artwork.
Unlike the other illustrations, this one focused heavily on the details of the face, which made it increasingly difficult to tell a story through the character without posture and without wording. However the facial expression, the rough textures and pen strokes along with the reflection in his glasses, raise quite a few questions as to what who this character might be. Another police officer? A bystander? A vigilante? Who knows.
