As part of the Christmas Monaliza Lounge exhibition which I am to take part in later this month, I was asked to make a self portrait to be displayed long with the rest of my pieces. I thought it funny to give a pop-culture take on my own portrait and mash-it-up with the painting that inspired both the name of the lounge as well as its interior. Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
The thought behind the painting however has certain sentimental value and a lot of meaning. This pieces symbolises finding oneself in others. That despite our differences from one individual to another, once we peel off our masks, we all feel, we all love, we all hurt and we all cry. Looking past a person’s exterior we can see yourself staring back.
My experience with the tablet is still not up to par with the results I want to achieve, but I have no doubt in my mind that with more practice I can reach my goal.
