Walking into the cinema, excited to watch Star Wars The Force Awakens on premiere night, I knew I would walk out wanting to create new and different styled designs than what I usually produce. Little did I know that inspiration would wash over me like a tonne of bricks.
The first couple of hours once the movie was over were crucial. The goal was to list and sketch all the ideas that popped into mind during that first viewing. I’ll admit that this was no easy task, especially keeping the list to a reasonable number of pieces.
The first of possibly many upcoming Star Wars themed illustrations is a tribute to the First Order Special Forces Tie Fighter pilots. The fresh and interesting re-vamped look of both starfighter and pilot outfit inspired me to create an military aviation type badge design. I had very little experience with the layout and construction of such badges prior to working on this design, so it offered quite the learning process.
I am not sure if I will be doing other badges depicting different squadrons and divisions within the First Order ranks as of yet, however I do have more sketches related to the organization which I would like to finish and post.
Last but not least, the awesome crew at TeeFury has accepted this design to be printed on their website in the near future.
Please feel free to leave any feedback about this artwork below. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed worked on it.
